What happens if I change the email associated with my account?

Changing the email address associated with your Office Timeline account is a simple process, but there are a few important details to keep in mind, especially if a license is assigned to your account or if you sign in using Microsoft or Google.

Your Office Timeline account gives you access to both the Office Timeline Add-in for PowerPoint and the Office Timeline Web app, with the same experience and account management across both products.

Depending on how your account is set up, the steps and outcomes may differ slightly.
Use the links below to jump directly to the section that applies to you:

A) I have an Office Timeline license assigned

B) My account is linked with Microsoft

C) My account is linked with Google

A) I have an Office Timeline license assigned

If you have a license assigned to your Office Timeline account and decide to change the email address linked to it, your seat will be released as a security measure, and your account will revert to the Free plan.

You’ll still have access to all your existing timelines, but editing or creating new ones will be limited to the features available in the Free plan.

Don’t worry, you can easily regain full access, whether you manage the subscription yourself or if someone else is the License Manager.

I am the license manager

If you are the manager of the subscription, you can quickly reassign yourself as a premium user. Here’s how:

  1. Once you’ve confirmed the email change, log in to your account using your new email address.

  2. Browse to the Subscriptions tab on your Account Page, locate your Office Timeline subscription scroll down to License management.

  3. Now, enter your new email address to fill the spot left unassigned when changing your account credentials, and then click Assign to regain access to the premium features of the online timeline maker.

Someone else manages my license

If you’re not the License Manager for your subscription, you won’t be able to reassign your own seat.
To regain access to premium features in Office Timeline, please contact your License Manager and ask them to assign your new email address to a seat in the Subscriptions page.

Once they’ve done that, you can sign back in with your new address to restore full access.

B) My account is linked with Microsoft

If you sign in to Office Timeline using your Microsoft account (“Continue with Microsoft”), the two accounts are connected through your email address.
Changing your email will break this link because it relies on the original address you used to sign in.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Your old Microsoft credentials will no longer work with your current Office Timeline account.
If you try to sign in using your old Microsoft account, you’ll be prompted to create a new Office Timeline account instead.

  • If your account was created through Microsoft and doesn’t have a standalone Office Timeline password, you’ll need to set up a password after changing your email. This ensures you can still sign in securely once the Microsoft link is removed.

  • After confirming your email change, you can link your new address with a matching Microsoft account.
Simply choose Continue with Microsoft at the sign-in screen and select the Microsoft account that matches your new email.

C) My account is linked with Google

If you sign in to Office Timeline using your Google account (“Continue with Google”), the two accounts are connected through your email address.
Changing your email breaks this link because it relies on the original address you used to sign in.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Your old Google credentials will no longer work with your current Office Timeline account.
If you try to sign in with the Google account tied to your old email, you’ll be prompted to create a new Office Timeline account instead.

  • If your Office Timeline account was created through Google and doesn’t have a standalone password, you’ll need to set up a password after changing your email.

This ensures you can continue signing in securely after the Google link is removed.

  • After confirming your email change, you can link your new address with a matching Google account.

Simply select Continue with Google at the sign-in screen and choose the Google account that matches your new email.
